PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE:
Did you see our most recent 5
minutes of fame, the DARE car and
Altamont Cruisers special on channel 2 with Joe Fonzi last Wednesday?
It was very well done. They
photographed the DARE car, both stationary and moving, and interviewed Chief
Scott and our very own Ed
English. They intermingled shots of the development of the car from
our scrapbook – all in all quite nice
exposure for our club, the DARE
car, the Livermore Police Department, and the city of Livermore. Thanks to Joe
Shurko for setting up the event – it took perseverance
on his part. I think we
will have a recording of this special at our next meeting. It’s
show time, folks!
The Altamont Cruisers Nostalgia Day Car Show is upon us!
Have you signed up to work?
We need you. Call Bob Black – he has the worker sign-up list and can tell you where
we are short of helpers. Our show is one of the best
anywhere! We have been
to several this year, and can say without a doubt our
location is tops. So
far this year we’ve parked on the grass, with
no shade in sight and several times on asphalt
with no shade trees (oh, maybe the shade from a building nearby if
we were lucky). We have
it all – wonderful friends,
shade, cool cars, good music, great raffle prizes, lots of awards,
nearby restaurants and antique shops, etc., etc., etc. One
change we made this year
that you may want to consider – all
parking is first come, first served, including Altamont Cruisers cars
– no saved places. So
arrive early, get a good spot to park and enjoy serving our
participants. What
a busy time of the year!
Every weekend in September, and October is already
filled! How can that
happen? I
thought we were retired! But,
we’re not complaining – the choice was ours and we are looking forward to fun with friends and family. Happy
Kruzin’ -- Phil August
was a busy car activity
month. Several members went
to Reno for Hot August Nights.
Like last year, it rained,
but this year the temperature was warmer.
I know that a few cruisers attended Hot
Oakley Nights on August 12th.
The week beginning August 21st was a particularly busy one.
The turnout at Foster’s Freeze was the biggest of the year and the Dublin
wind gave us a break. The
last Hot Summer Night Car Show was held in Danville with over 500 cars
showing up, and I braved the
crowds in Pleasanton, and took the Plymouth
out for the annual event.
The Goodguys West Coast
Nationals was held on Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday, with several cruisers attending one, two , or
all three days. As if all
of that wasn't enough there was a Muscle
Car night Saturday. On Tuesday
August 29th, Joe Shurko, arranged for Channel 2 to
do a segment on the DARE car. I was out of
town but did see a video tape.
The presentation was about five minutes long and the club
received a lot of positive
publicity (hats off to Joe
for making the arrangements). September
continues to have a lot of activity planned.
We have a group going to the Altamont
Raceway on September 9th, Rock and Bowl, put on by the Tri
Valley Classics is on
September 16th, an
event attended by many cruisers, and then our own show September
24th. If you
haven't signed up to help out, there still is time.
Currently the number of entries is
156 with the expectation that September will bring in another 200.
The last Club
sponsored Foster’s Freeze is on September
27th. It
would be great to end the year with a large turnout of club cars. Bob Meeting called to order 7:30 pm Present were:

BUCKS $ That's what the Hawaiian
Luau was fun, fun, fun! Bob and Denise
did a wonderful job bringing Hawaii
to us. First we all were
greeted with lei’s as we
entered their lovely home with all the Hawaiian
decorations. Their back yard was very tropical
with a cute little Tiki Hut, pond,
and a table with a grass
skirt on it! It was a great
day for everyone that attended.
The ladies had their Hawaiian
dress's(outfit's) on and the
men had their flowered shirt's. It was so colorful!!!! We all got a chance to visit
with our good friends Charlie and Jo Ann Castro, who spent the night
at the Black's just so they
could join us. It was great to
see them and we all promised to really try to see each other more
often. And we will! As
always the food was fantastic, and of course we all ate while having
good, fun conversations with our fellow cruisers. Bob
and Denise, we take our hat's off to you!
You hosted a great social and we thank you very much for doing it.
GREAT JOB!
You'll have to do this again
next year!! Each social
seems to get better.. Good friendships have grown through the
event's we have had. It's not
too late for you to join the fun.....Come join us at Pat
and Joe Carrillo's home for the Bag stuffing Social on Sept. 17th. You'll see what
fun it is. Again a Big
Thank You to the Black's Kathy COMMUNITY

CALENDAR BOARD
MEETING Help,
we need judges.
As most of you are probably aware, we
are selecting the award winners in most the award categories this
year. Counting votes was so
much work, we wanted to try
something different. We have 24
categories in which we need to select winners.
If you are willing to take 2
or 3 categories, of your choice, and select winners, it would be a big help for the show. You
will be looking at the cars anyway, so why not help your show committee with this important part of the effort.
Contact Ed English and let him know which categories you can take. Fellow
cruisers: In
order to make our annual car show enjoyable for everyone
in the club, it takes most all members to staff the car show event through
out the day. Remember that
this show and its purpose are why most of us joined in the first place,
we wanted to help and be a part of this wonderful cause. Currently, help
is needed in the following areas: 3ea "Barricade Guards"
from 6:00am - 7:00am (you
just sit at the street barricade until security arrives) 3ea "Parking Crew" from
6:00am - 8:00am (direct
cars and traffic to = parking spots, ensuring crosswalks
and vendor spaces are left clear) 7ea "Parking Crew" from
8:00am - 10:00am (see
description above) 2ea "Poker Walk"
from 10:00am - 12:00pm (
sit at street corner with small table, having players draw a card and
you mark the results on their sheet) 2ea "Drawing prize
Numbers" from 8:00am - 10:00am (assist in drawing raffle ticket
numbers and recording on board , collect winning tickets and hand out
prizes) 2ea "Drawing Prize
Numbers" from 10:00am - 12:00pm (see above for description) 3ea "Drawing Prize
Numbers" from 12:00pm - 2:00pm (same as above) 1ea "Sales" from 8:00am -
10:00am (sale what ever it is that we sale at the car show ((oh yea!
Event Shirts!)) 2ea "Registration Booth"
from 10:00am - 12:00pm ( sign -up those late comers to the show) 2ea "Ballot Counting"
from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm (count
ballots to determine the winners (this shouldn't take long because most
of the car categories are being judged!) 7ea "judges" from 11:00am
- 2:00 pm (choose 1st and
2nd place winners in several categories ( you really get to see the show
with this job!) As you can see the club
needs everyone’s help. Those that work in the show get a free
workers shirt ( need to sign up early enough so that we have time to
order your size of shirt in time for the show). Many of you have already
signed up and some have even elected
to work several jobs. To those of you who have, I
thank you from the bottom of my heart! For the rest, please
call me and sign up now to help your club have a successful car
show! Bob
